BIOGRAPHY

A recent visiting artist to the American Academy in Rome, Antonia Walker has become known for her paintings of the Virginia countryside as well as images of Italy and France. The artist received a BFA from the University of Georgia where she studied painting and printmaking and then attended graduate school at George Washington University. Later while living in South America, she studied drawing and anatomy with Spanish sculptor, Benjamin Saul.

In 1998, Ms Walker was invited to be a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome where she was provided a studio in which to work. During that time she also traveled around Tuscany and Umbria with sketchbook and watercolors. In 1977, the artist painted in France when she took a graduate painting class with William Woodward in Brittany. This past summer she went to Provence where she joined a group of painters in a small hamlet near Rousillion from which they journeyed each day to paint landscapes.

The artist’s work has been represented in many collections including the Arts-in-Embassy program of the State Department, and in many corporate and private collections throughout the country. In 1989 Ms Walker was invited to participate in a NASA panel of visual artists and poets gathered to create works celebrating the space program. The works were then organized into a traveling exhibit.

Further works can be seen at Gallery 222 in Leesburg , the Handwright Gallery in New Canaan, CT, and the LongView Gallery in Sperryville, VA.
